The March 16 opened with very important updates on VA, DOD, pending legislation, and IOM findings on veterans health care from Denise Nichols, RN, Major, USAF retired.
Then my guest was my own cousin Bonnie Rokke Tinnes, a Russian/English linguist- teacher, registered nurse, and author who talked about her books and poems.
We read "Grandma's Three Winks", some poems, a chapter from "Growing Up Margaret" and we talked about being kids and importance of family.
Bonnie's books and poetry take us back to growing up in northern Minnesota during the 1950's - 1960's and a simpler time. Bonnie shows us how by writing we can bring joy and help ourselves. We also are planning a discussion on PTSD based on her years as a psych nurse.
Bonnie's books include:
1. I Am a Woman- I Am a Person
2. Growing up Margaret
3. Margaret Inc.
4. Grandma's Three Winks
5. her poetry books
Bonnie's books are available on Amazon.com
Her web site is: BonnieRokkeTinnes.com
Just like with the incredible poetry of David Winnett, Captain, retired, USMC and impacts of peace journalist/ author Bob Koehler (commonwonders.com) who have both graced Warrior Connection we can see how the power of writing can help us all heal and more important to grow and finally how we can leave an eternal wonderful contribution for all.
